A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Crawford County Election Department regarding the candidates for the upcoming spring election on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at Crawford Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request was made under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., and we specifically asked for an electronic format list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We requested detailed information about each candidate including their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Crawford County Election Department regarding this request.
