- Practices
The need to take into account data privacy risks in investigations is not new; processing data about individuals, especially in a cross-border context, has, for many years, raised thorny questions at the crossroads of privacy, employment and criminal laws to name a few. However, in recent years, the spread of data localization requirements or increased complications around access to data, combined with the focal point given to privacy compliance in the context of settlement procedures, mean that data privacy and protection laws can present significant risks and potential disruptions for companies.
Navigating regimes that appear to be imposing (or actually impose) conflicting obligations place companies in difficult situations.
Join members of Steptoe's data privacy and investigations teams on Thursday, December 2, for a complimentary webinar focused on the key issues that arise in cross-border investigations as they relate to data privacy regulations in the UK, EU, and elsewhere.
Topics for Discussion Will Include:
- Why is privacy compliance central to investigations?
- What are the impacts of new transfer requirements on preparing and conducting investigations?
- Internal investigation versus Investigation by authorities: are there any differences?
- Are you ready for it? Practical considerations to help your organization prepare for investigations.
