Water:
Saegertown’s Water System:
The Borough currently has 7 water wells. Maximum production is 2,552,280 gallons per day. With wells 6 & 7 out of service we can still produce 1,832,904 gallons per day. In 2018 we sold 1,837,926 gallons per day. We are currently developing two new water wells (#8 & #9) to give us added capacity, and provide us with a back-up system. We are also exploring the option of treating wells 6&7 to remove the PFOS/PFOA that was recently found in two of the wells.
Update on PFOS / PFOA:
While we were not required to shut the wells down, we voluntarily did so. We are going to bring the wells back on line as needed. We are waiting for further direction from the PA DEP. If you are uncomfortable, you can use bottled water. We feel the water is safe, and will continuously monitor the situation. Limit 70 parts per trillion.
Water Usage: Where does Saegertown’s water go?
-87% Industrial Use (jobs…jobs…jobs)
-5% Institutional use (County Jail, County Care Center, Churches etc.)
-4% Commercial
-4% Residential
Residential Water Use: (based on several averages)
-26% Toilets
-22% Showers & Baths
-19% Washing clothes
-11% Leaks & Waste
-15% Faucets (cooking, dish washing, cleaning and drinking)
-7% Other (washing cars, watering lawns and plants, swimming pools etc.)
We estimate that less than 1% of the water we produce is used for drinking water!
How does your water bill stack up?
-The average combined residential water and garbage bill in Saegertown is $30.01 per month.
-The minimum for both water and garbage is $24.50 a month.
What is a Trillionth?
As you have been made aware we are dealing with a new contaminate in our water that is measured in trillionths!
To put a trillionth in perspective:
-One trillion is a Million million!
-One-trillionth would be approximately one drop of water in 20 Olympic size swimming pools!
-We are required to keep at least 40 parts per Million of chlorine in your drinking water.
American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA):
The Borough is accepting suggestions for the use of the ARPA money every community will receive. Suggestions may be sent by mail to the Borough (PO Box 558) prior to July 9, 2021, or may be presented in person prior to the July Borough Council meeting at 6:00 pm on July 12th.
