Allegheny College issued the following announcement.
Allegheny College has been recognized among the best liberal arts colleges in the United States in the 2021 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education U.S. College Rankings.
Allegheny ranked No. 56 among all liberal arts colleges in the nation and in the top 20 percent overall among all the colleges and universities identified in the publication’s annual student-focused rankings.
The rankings are based on 15 performance indicators “designed to answer the questions that matter most to students and their families when making one of the most important decisions of their lives — who to trust with their education,” the report states. “Does the college have sufficient resources to teach me properly? Will I be engaged, and challenged, by my teacher and classmates? Does the college have a good academic reputation? What type of campus community is there? How likely am I to graduate, pay off my debt and get a good job?”
The rankings include the results of the Times Higher Education U.S. Student Survey, which examines a range of key issues, including students’ engagement with their studies, their interaction with their teachers and their satisfaction with their experience, among other questions, the report states.
“We are honored to be included among the top liberal arts colleges in the nation in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education U.S. College Rankings,” said Allegheny College President Hilary L. Link. “This recognition reflects the depth and distinctions of an Allegheny education, which requires students to think beyond their major by also selecting a minor in a different discipline. That approach to learning empowers students to develop new perspectives, preparing them to be able to confront and solve complex global issues and find meaning and success in the rapidly changing world they graduate into.”
In September, U.S. News & World Report named Allegheny College one of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges in the U.S. — and one of the top 20 for best undergraduate teaching. The publication also recognized Allegheny among a select group of schools with stellar examples of first-year experiences, undergraduate research/creative projects, and senior capstone experiences.
In August, the Washington Monthly annual survey named Allegheny as one of the top 35 best liberal arts colleges in the nation. Also listed among the top 35 were Carleton College, Grinnell College, Swarthmore College and Williams College.
